My name is Derek and I created leveeware.com to conduct an experiment. The subject in the experiment is myself, and the outcomes I hope to achieve are the following:
- Bootstrapping a successful SaaS company from the ground up
- Creating a digital asset management (DAM) tool and positioning it primarily to the lower end of the market, which seems woefully under-served
- Building everything completely in public, publishing financial information and company metrics along the way
I hope to engage the DAM community over time to get them interested in the experiment and hopefully to solicit their extremely valuable feedback. I am also hopeful that other beginner SaaS founders will want to follow my journey. Whether I am successful or not, I decided that I would provide the intimate details of the process to the world because — frankly speaking — I have always longed to have a peak behind the curtain myself. In doing so, I hope to provide value to others, and could perhaps even benefit by broadcasting my inevitable mistakes to a more intelligent audience : )
I myself am a full-stack software engineer with about 14 years of industry experience. I recently learned I have a strong interest in marketing and company building, although I don’t yet have any experience in either.
